When your Home is Your Relatives' Storage Unit

How many of us have stuff that was given to us because it has sentimental value for "The Gifter"?  When I got an apartment with some college friends, we were grateful to snatch up all kinds of donations and cast offs from family members. We had a couch from my Uncle in Law's wife, a bunk bed from my room-mates mother, a REAL kitchen table given by an aunt. It was even solid wood, not pressed board. We felt blessed! These renovations require a lot of skilled trades and they require a significant financial investment, as well.  Most people don't have $100,000 to spend to make their home beautiful and organized.  But there is hope!  Small changes, and some time spent being intentional can make a big difference in a space.  I'm a believer in using what you have on hand. Your home decor can often be re-purposed. If it's broken and can't be fixed it probably needs to go. If it is too big for your space, it can be sold on a resale site and those funds can be spent to make your home more comfortable and functional.  Your home does not have to look like the Before/After photos in a typical live streamed renovation. Most of those homes on TV have a significant amount of staging, a lot of which may not stay in the home once the cameras are gone. A
